Evaluation Specialist - Communities in Schools

JOB SUMMARY -- Under the direction of the Evaluation & Technology Manager, the Evaluation Specialist provides support to the CIS of GA evaluation efforts, including data entry, evaluation training, some data analysis, evaluation coordination and report writing and preparation for those projects and programs to which the specialist has been assigned. The salary range for this position is $34,000-$38,000 and the position requires approximately 30% travel in Georgia. The position is located in Downtown Atlanta. This is a full time position. Phoenix Management Intern opportunity

The City of Phoenix, Arizona, is currently recruiting for our one year, full-time, paid local government training program that begins on June 30, 2008.

Established in 1950, the program recruitment is open to individuals who have earned a master's degree or will complete all course work toward a master's degree by June 30, 2008. In the past, two to four candidates have been selected annually for this competitive, highly regarded program.

The program is designed to attract, develop and retain innovative individuals in the city of Phoenix. Selected individuals will have the opportunity to observe firsthand efforts to address some of its most pressing issues facing a large, award-winning city government. By performing rotational assignments in the:

  • City Manager's Office
  • Budget and Research Department, and
  • departments providing direct public services to the community,
selected individuals will refine professional skills and receive opportunities to work closely and network with top city executives and managers. Successful participants are highly recruited by city departments to fill available city jobs after the program concludes.

Selected individuals will receive an annual salary and a comprehensive benefits package such as medical and dental insurance.

Coordinator helps lead the SREB-State Doctoral Scholars Program, which assists hundreds of racial/ethnic minority doctoral students. Coordinator also helps increase the number of minority faculty members at colleges and universities across the 16-SREB state region.

Responsible for coordinating all program services for more than 1,000 doctoral students and graduates. The coordinator will report to the director of the SREB-State Doctoral Scholars Program and will work with the Doctoral Scholars Program staff in carrying out program goals and objectives.

Key responsibilities:
Establish and maintain communication with scholars and higher education agencies and institution personnel. Track and record scholar progress toward doctoral degree through direct contact, reviews of grades and/or research progress reports and communication with faculty mentors. Confirm scholar enrollment using National Student Clearinghouse and/or through direct contact with institutions. Assist director to develop, write and produce presentations, reports and publications. Regularly update information for the Web site, maintain online scholar directory and electronic jobs listing.

The coordinator also works closely with the program accounting and institute coordinator with the financial administration and coordination of scholarship program services. These services include ensuring that all program and accounting records, grant, budgets and financial reports are accurate and complete; reviewing Memoranda of Agreements and funding summaries for scholars; assisting with annual budgetary planning and reports to funding agencies; creating and maintaining all scholar records and files; and, working with colleagues to review all scholar accounts at academic year end.

Position Qualifications:
At least a master’s degree with four years of experience in a university and college environment; working knowledge of Microsoft Office-based computer software to organize and analyze data, maintain databases and produce reports and internet research. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

The Director of Education Policies is responsible for compiling up-to-date information and analyzing long-term educational trends in order to provide progress reports to state policy-makers, education leaders and others related to SREB's Goals. The Director coordinates reporting related to SREB’s Goals for Education: Challenge to Lead, and with the Vice President for Education Policies, works to carry the messages of the Goals to all stakeholders in the 16 SREB states. The specific responsibilities include working with SREB and state agency staff to collect and analyze information and to track progress toward goals. The three major themes of the Goals are: (1) transitions for students, pre-kindergarten to elementary schools, middle grades to high school and high school to postsecondary education and careers, (2) closing the gaps in educational performance of students, and (3) creating systems of schools and colleges that are aligned and accountable.

The Director will have wide experience in education, preferable at both K-12 and higher education institutions, in state agencies and with policy makers. Primary responsibility is to develop relationships and share information with staff in state K-12 and higher education agencies, especially in academic and program areas.

The Director also responds to a variety of requests from SREB constituents, including Board members, legislators, educational officials, legislative and executive staff, and the news media. The Director will represent SREB at selected state, regional and national conferences and assist the president and vice president with projects as assigned.

Written and oral presentations are prepared for a variety of audiences that include state policymakers, educators and administrators. The Director will supervise a group of research associates in compiling and collecting data and information related to Goals for Education: Challenge to Lead and will ensure that the information is developed into materials for various constituencies.

The director will have a master’s degree in a field of study related to the job duties; a doctoral degree in a field related to the job duties is preferred. The director will have a working knowledge of office-based computer software to organize and analyze date, maintain databases and produce reports. Excellent writing skills are required.
